So, it was the first race of the Dino Series and it started off well. With very intimidating storms both before and after the race we really were lucky to not have to race in very severe conditions. All the team was there except John who was down at PMBAR. We all had a great time with Amanda pulling down a podium position of 3rd place. Tim finished 3rd in his race too. Only later on in the day did i hear that Will was held up by a crash on the start line and was about the last one into the woods, but i still saw he had a good finish in the pack. I raced well but really felt bad at about 1.5 hours and faded a little bit to 13th or 14th place overall. Tim and Will had so much fun the stuck around and raced on the road on Sunday. Amanda and i optioned out of the Sunday races and we went on a road ride which was equally good because it was absolutely beautiful out and it was the first time I've ridden through Trafalgar and Morgantown, So there were some good firsts there. Amanda: There was a great turnout for the women's race despite the impending rain throughout weekend. It started off like a typical Cyclocross race with Nicole Borem, Nicki Dellaire and I together. I passed Nicole when she crashed in the rock garden. I knew she was ok because she was laughing... She caught me after my front wheel slid out and I banged my knee into the ground. I was not laughing when this happened. I picked myself off the ground and jumped on my bike but the chain had come off. I dealt with that, then got back moving.
I stayed with Sarah for the entire race, she is a cycling coach from Austin, Texas. It is good to have another fast rider in town to compete with. We have a great bunch of women up here, on and off the bike. Emily Benson had a good day racing to a fourth place finish. Our lelader Tim O'Donnell, Will Sherman and his wife Janet were all there racing, It was good to have most of the team together, I am looking forward to the next one!
I was consistent, crashing in the same two spots on both laps. I need to race some more!
I am so excited to see the 2011 OVCX series has been announced. This has got to be one the premier Cyclocross Series of the world. It is well attended, organized well and a ton of fun. It almost makes me wish it was fall!

So all of the team bikes are built, painted, assembled, and delivered. All of the components and schwag has, for the most part, been filtered out to the team. I can now stop and sit back and catch my breath for a quick moment as the race season is now bearing down upon us. Jacob, Amanda, Will and I are kicking off the DINO season on Saturday up in Warsaw while John take the show on the road and heads down to PMBAR on the same weekend.
I am supremely proud of what our little team has put together. The racers are all fit, flying, fast, and fun. I know I repeat it over and over but we are all ambassadors to the sport. Never should that point escape your frontal cortex. All actions need to be conducted through the prism of "How would others perceive my actions and behavior? How would that reflect on the companies on the jersey?" I have no doubt that all of you will go hard. You will turn yourselves inside and out to eek out a little better position, a little faster time, a little closer to the top step of the podium. On this I have no doubt. More importantly, I am supremely proud of the character of the team. We are truly a TEAM. Results come and go but character is here to stay. We will be the standard bearer for what a team should be.
Have fun kids. Smile. Test yourself. Encourage others. Be a role model. Have no regrets that you did your best to win and did it in the "right" way.
Now if you will excuse me I need to start thinking about getting the team cyclocross frames built.

I've been commuting in to work lately by bike. It's been going great. It seems like it's really freeing up my evenings having a couple hours of saddle time in by the time i get home. It's really not too bad of a trip, about 40 min, but it takes some planning cause if i have meetings that require being there in person it could become a bit of a hassle. Today i'm headed straight from work out to the park to ride some trails with Amanda. Picture above is of a foggy sunrise.

Columbus is walking/ rolling in the right direction for a comprehensive Bike and pedestrian plan in the community. The first reading passed with minimal effort but still some resistance from people who are worried it will effect their yards, etc.
With a recent fatality on Rocky Ford Road, it seems this issue is as pressing as ever. A boy was crossing the road when he was struck by a car. This is a location where there were no safe pedestrian crossings nearby.
There are still people fighting different aspects of the plan but overall it seems like the perfect time to adopt a plan for people to have safe ways to exercise. The bike/pedestrian plan would add sidewalks and bike lanes to many areas throughout the city. The Healthy Communities Initiative is working to help people adopt healthier habits and lifestyles. Being safe and comfortable walking and biking would be a good addition to our community.
If it saves one child’s life, then I say it is worth it.
Jake and I had a couple chances to get used to our new bikes. They are different from the bikes we have been riding the last few years, so we are going through a couple growing pains but we love the new bikes!
The picture is at Jake's family farm in Hannibal, MO. We rode a combination of gravel and mud for a couple hours before heading back to the farm. It was a beautiful weekend and a great Easter.
Jake and I had just enough time to do a loop at Brown County before it got dark. After our first ride we sat at Hesitation Point, shared a beer and enjoyed the park.
We are excited to get back on those bikes!
